A change of pace this week!
On Friday, I did a nice, safe corporate gig… taking photos at IBM’s Casino Night. It was very, very, very different from my normal night of shooting, and had it’s own challenges.
Here is the full gallery of Casino Night photos. I took the opportunity to have some fun with the flash, as I’m normally just running around using available light. I also tried to get my head around different ways to use the 17-55mm 2.8 for some other events I have coming up. I’ve chucked a few “arty” DOF type shots in as well, even though they were fun shots
I got a chance to work with the wonderful Helen McLean as a model of all things. Anyone that has seen my face in real life would understand how hilarious a concept THAT is :P
I sat at a desk, looked at papers, held a can to my ear in a park and yelled “wooooooo” with my thumb up. I am assured that I did a good job, but I’m not sure my “wooooo” is up there with the best
Also, Steph and I welcomed a new family member into our household.

a nice ‘lil 24” iMac
Having never used a mac, I’m loving it, but still finding reasons to bang my head against my desk in frustration. I love Aperture 2 for RAW editing. I find it a lot smoother and the results are a lot more reliable than Lightroom. For the first time, my photos aren’t even touching Photoshop after RAW editing. The workflow is fantastic, and it just works… simple as that
I like the .mac idea, and 3 days into my 60 day trial, I think I’ll stick with it. Giving people the ability to see, and download the photos online, as well as providing secure storage is pretty nifty.
The head -> desk banging, comes courtesy of a stupid issue I can’t fix… and it’s a showstopper
I can’t get to Redbubble :(
at all!
The Redbubble site times out on me, and won’t load nay images on the odd chance it does go through after 10 minutes. I’ve tried global DNSs, reinstalls Firefox and all manner of MTU size changes and technical voodoo… without any luck. So, I have a PC for Redbubble, and a Mac for everything else in the world. That sucks

LOL! Your “Wooooo” was very well done indeed Adrian! It was great working with you and seeing you again!

I can’t wait until we get started on our next little project… I look a lot cooler pointing a gun at the camera than I do with a soup can next to my ear
Well, I hope I look cooler with a gun in my hand!

the casino shots are great, i love the close ups of the dealing in black in white

Thanks… I have a little suprise event coming up in a few months, and wanted to practice moody shots like that. I get bored doing “smile at me… NOW” shots, so I did those to keep my brain awake :)

I look forward to those shots too! I think I have everything needed to start…
And I agree with CherryDarling, those shots are my fav as well (and of course they happen to be the “arty” ones!).

they were part of my “post 5x champagnes” collection :)

Great shots of Melanie at IBM Adrian can not believe she did not have a drink in hand and her mobile in the other lol..
I think you would make a great model .

I don’t have ANY bad shots of her from the night… very, very disappointing! I was floored with the flu, otherwise I would have hit the after party drinks with the gang. THAT would have made for some very, very interesting photos, I’m sure

Looks like the casino night was good fun Adrian. I just got a 17-55mm lens myself. Got any good tips you can pass on to me?

Oh Adrian, when do you start wearing a turtle neck and 501’s like your new hero Steve Jobs?
Adrian Carmody in reply to Stephen Colquitt’s comment, 3 months ago
Just to watch for flaring. I’ve found that it picks flares up from most direct lighting. It makes it a little tougher shooting gigs, but the freedom and sharpness of the lens more than makes up for it

I look ridiculous in a turtle neck… even more ridiculous that Steve Jobs, and that is saying something.
I don’t get into the whole mac cult thing, but I can appreciate something so damn cool, at an affordable price.

so does it make you cool by association? do you hope it makes you cool by association? do you stay awake at night worrying about cool?
hmmm – are you suffering cool anxiety?
:-)

I have found myself feeling anxious about being cool enough for the mac. I’m scared it will judge me if I look a bit crappy in the mornings, so I do try and at least clean up a bit before I sit in front of it.
I’ve picked 4 people at work who I will no longer talk to, as I think the mac wouldn’t want me to associate with them. I don’t think it will make me cooler, but I know for damn sure that it will make me happier :D
oh, and for those bubbemailing me, I managed to fix my Redbubble problem… my router was blocking SYN flooding, and some traffic from the mac was cut off. Why, I’ll never know, how I figured that out… again, I may never know. I like nerding
