Hi Adrian, this is a very emotive peice of photography – I would really like to know more about this shot. Was this photojournalism, a posed shot etc. Would it be too much to ask you to Bmail me more info or reply in comments?
The three folks in the shot are acrobats from Circus Trick Tease. Malia, the young lass there is a very good friend of mine. I follow her around to all the performances at various festivals to see them in action.
They performed at The Village Festival yesterday, looking straight into the setting sun – not ideal. It wasn’t easy to get a good shot, so I just chucked the 70-200 on and looked for some close up moments, rather than catching the tricks like I normally would.
Malia was being held above Shannon, and their hands slipped. He is a superbly gifted acrobat/strongman, and made the catch look like part of the show. This was the split second after she dropped into his arms. It LOOKS like a huge moment, with the drama of the facial expressions, but that was more about just how much effort they have to put in to some of the tricks that they do
BRILLIANT CAPTURE!!! [yes pun intended! lol] You have captured the power of the raging emotions & adrenalin! I thought it may have been any rescue – fire, water, police, ... but the truth just makes it BRILLIANT!!! ♥ LOVE IT!!! ♥ Thank you!! ♥ BRAVO!! ♥
I had to come back and look again – I’m just blown away by this shot! I’m sitting staring at it! Brilliant Capture! Just brilliant! .... did I say that already? ♥
To escape this shot I have to write the words in my head – forgive me it is a fictionalization of what may have transpired -
‘It’s ok I got ya.’ he whispered in her ear ‘Shhh…’ she couldn’t speak, acutely aware of every face on her and her need to perform to cover the mistakes, the audience can never know. ‘shhh….’ she wanted to swear but her nerves were too jangled ‘Shh,’ he crooned rocking her gently as he carried her out of the spotlight. Against her stomach she felt his heart beating as franticly as hers, felt the gentleness of his hands and the strength of his arms as he held her as he’d caught her ‘You right now?’ ‘Yeah’ she lied in a soft voice and allowed him to return her to the ground ‘You’re fine ok, c’mon let’s get on! HUP!’ the master decided smacking her rump and skipping off to the next trick’s position. If looks could kill …
Oh phew! ☺ I was holding my breath that you weren’t sending the cops after me for stalking! But I could not let this go! I am a slave to the words art evokes in me!
Miri said – “awesome shot…you can feel the look on her face” – you can feel the sweat trickling down his face & their hearts thumping and their breath laboured …..
Man I hope this shot gets the recognition it deserves! Stunning! Have you showed the performers? it’s just awesome! Thank you! ♥
Nope it still has that WOW factor and gobsmacked stunned mullet effect on me -7 hours later! I’m still staring at that pick! an absolute stunner mate! Chookas! X♥X
Can you believe … 14 days later and I still get shivers when I look at this! ☼ I guess it shows us that sense of security that we are constantly seeking – like when your dad used to throw you in the air and catch you – that exhilarating freedom and that safety on the catch yet you are still scared shitless that you just might fall! ☼ STUNNING! ☼ thank you! ♥☼♥
this is one mind blowing piece of work!!! I read the story and I’m glad you posted the details of the event – it just adds so much to it … looking at the shot I also had loads of questions careening through my head … Congratulations on the front page feature – SO well deserved !!! Awesome work!
Like everyone said, truly amazing shot, so much drama and emotions! Even though in your explanation you said that it wasn’t a very big deal, it probably was judging by expression. I think for them it is every time they perform, and the enormous trust they have in each other, this show as well. So well done!
