Um… save me jesus. Or something equally as blasphemous. It’s definitely my favourite!!

I was about to tag you in Facebook as the finger…. just for more torture

I also have a photo of Gentle Ben rolling in broken glass. He thoughtfully provided the broken glass himself at the start of the set (just missed me!)

I have more than a few horror stories from just 1 Hick set. I’d just got my D300, and after the first song I hear the microphone whiz by my ear… very, very close proximity to my head. The whole time I was thinking.. not the camer please not the camera haha

    Sixfthick?? Love that band!

  • Adrian Carmody replied

Yes indeed, the best live Aussie band going around at the moment. It doesn’t get much better than them

They’ve been the best around for years, probably the most underrated Aussie band. Their cd’s are good too.

you ever seen dreadnaught and taken any pics? I got big raps on them, so im stoked to hear they are coming to tassie in august. If I am able I will take my camera and upload some snaps

  • Adrian Carmody replied

I haven’t seen them, but I’ve heard good things. I was due to catch them at the East Brunswick Club earlier this year, but the promoter didn’t come through with my pass in time. I don’t think they’ve played another show in Melbourne since

I’ll keep an eye out for them, for sure

Must be a fun but challenging job at times, yeah worth checking out

  • Adrian Carmody replied

More fun than challenging… I’ve had awful gigs, just painful from start to finish. Even then, I get to hang out with mates, listen to music and drink beer while the world crashes down around me. Not getting to shows because of silly promoters is annoying, since most of the time I only pick concerts I want to go to, to shoot. I missed out on catching the Drones because they filled the guest list and didn’t add me until 2 weeks after they said they had. I would have happily bought my own ticket for that one

There are worse ways to spend a Friday night – the money is trickling in, not pouring. The day job is still required, but hopefully only for another 6-8 months

cool. I used to write for local street press’s in hobart but some of the bitchy nature was a put off. I wanted to cover Machine Gun Fellatio (cuz i was going anyway) but the head guy said they could not support MGF cuz they refused the mag an interview once. What bullshit. it shouldnt be about the mag but about fans and helping the industry (more so in tassie where its such a small scene) anyway thats my rant

  • Adrian Carmody replied

Fair enough too… I still bump into people like that, I just end up avoiding them

www.fasterlouder.com.au is pretty cool – they send out a list of gigs they need covered, and phone/inperson interviews they need once a week. They don’t always give out the primo stuff for anyone to do, but it’s still much less incestuous than the street presses. They have a Tassie section, but I don’t think there is a Tassie photog section… stupidly enough

okay I will check it out. I am currently studying English/Journalism at uni but the extra contacts and pieces of work to produce will help, cheers

Adrian, i didn’t want to fill the forum post with details..
what baody wast this series taken with…Full Frame or Crop??
    thanks

  • Adrian Carmody replied

Crop, sadly a Full Frame is at least 12 months away, with lens lust taking up much of my short term camera expenses. The 50 on a crop isn’t spectacular for anyone that is used to something wider, but it was all I had at my disposal for 12 months, so I learned to move around to make the composition work. It got me into some good habits (and got me a bit more exercise too)

    D300
    ISO1600
    f/2
    1/400

This particular shot is a crop a little, to “suck” the viewer in :)
