They are by far the easiest, and most difficult band I’ve ever had to photograph….
Easiest, because charisma pours out of them, as quickly as the sweat flows and the beer is sprayed over the crowd. Most difficult, because being close is a major hazard! I narrowly missed a mic to the head, a boot to the face and all sorts of other limbs being thrown at me. Sitting on the floor next to the stage is NOT advised. They had the crowd in an absolute frenzy

They’re ferocious….and the crowd gets the same. The vibe generally gets quite animalistic at their shows. Up the front, eh? You are a brave man indeed!! Worth the dannger though, the shots are just stunning.

A good 10 seconds. I have a series of him going from screaming in the pose to smacking himself in the head with a microhphone. I still think it would be impossible to get a bad photo of someone so lost in their music

It comes down to practice and persitance. I just go to gigs, take a few hundred photos and see what works, and what doesn’t. It takes 3-4 nights to really get the routine right, but you would be suprsied how easily it falls into place once you know the tricks. Spot metering, spot focus, a 50mm 1.8 lens, and the fun begins :)
