A window in a villa far above the town of Amalfi, possibly in Pontone, on a crisp fall afternoon. We came upon this window on our trek up the Amalfi valley through the old paper mill ruins on our way to Ravello. Although all I had with me was my old Canon S50 point and shoot, it was better than not having anything.
Canon S50 (P&S) ISO 50, f/5, 1/1000, B&W processing
You do beautifully with black and white compositions. Italy is such a fantastic place for great shots.
Thanks so much, Margaret. The percentage of B&Ws I have up here is quite a bit higher than is actually in my overall portfolio, but I’ve intentionally put a few up that I hope work well.
This particular shot is an older one, and a few days ago I came across it again and it was all right, but the color didn’t really add anything to it. I’d always liked the shot, so I desaturated it, and thought it was better. Honestly, if not for the ladder, I probably would have thrown it out.

The camera is just a tool, the vision is yours. You saw it, composed it and it is good.
Many thanks, Robert.
