Once there was a tall one who quest to know it all
convinced from up above all knowledge came
he saw the great white moon climb the crest so tall
and sought to be the tallest one by name
He started on his trek to follow that moon’s rise
and soon began the climb to be the top
then suddenly he heard his son’s fading cries
pleading for his Papa to please stop
The tallest one of all waited for the lad
determined to catch his father up
Soon the stumbling one met his towering dad
and together they went on to fill their cup
Are we there yet Papa? Did we make it to the top?
We’ve been walking and climbing all day
Have we reached our highest ? Now can we stop?
When can we pause and eat the hay?
Not long now son and we’ll be at the top
the highest that we can ever go
Then we’ll be remembered for the ones who did the lot
and the ones that know all there is to know
There’s just a little further now to go
It wasn’t very long ’til the peak was duly reached
and the father and his son stood side by side
they were taller than the rocks and taller than the trees
and the tallest one puffed out his chest with pride
It seems to be so lonely here there’s no one else around
the sides are sheer we may yet badly fall
And who will see us here Papa who will hear our sound?
and with who shall I get to play ball?
The tallest of them all stood and looked about
the wisdom of his son seeping through
no one else was there to see their high lookout
or question them on anything they knew
And look over there Papa the stars and moon and all
we’ll have to keep on climbing even more
for to reach the top of them and know we are most tall
taller than we’ve ever been before
The tallest of them all looked down to his son
and knew that they would gently wander back
suddenly his quest seemed less to worry on
than knowing just enough to be intact
They let the great big moon travel on it’s way
and contentedly turned their steps to home
As the stars all softly faded and the sky lit with the day
the tallest and his son no more would roam
They knew all they needed now to know
