gently waking the world from slumber
and I wait in my kitchen for the day to begin
and listen
Slowly the house comes to life
reluctant sleepers leave cosy beds
sleep crusted eyes and soft pouting lips
reach up to me for their morning kiss
and smile
and on the bench are the September pears
succulent juicy deliciously ripe
waiting for use as they were intended to be
to fulfill the wishes of you and me
offer themselves to give nourishment
and life
