~ Colours in My Eyes ~

If I should go blind will I still remember
the colours of the world I have seen?
Will my eyes become the colours reflecting my memory;
reds and yellows blues and green?

Will there be magentas and violets and ochre?
Will there be azure, aqua, olive and tan?
As the colours gradually fade from my memory
will you not see them in my eyes again?

Will the freshness of life be visible still?
The fun of pink and orange and lime
The warmth of vermilion buttercup and lemon
The mellowness of garnet and wine

So which would be last that will fade from my eyes?
The brilliance of a sunrise or dark skies of night?
Shall the blue of the water and sky shine on?
Or will it be the calm cool emerald of life?

I was trapped in this gaze posted by Alf Caruana and the the thought “What happens to your eyes when you go blind?” crossed my mind then these words filled my head

Enjoy! ♥

My biggest fear – eloquently written

  • Thank you!
I heard one of our best writers Colleen McCulloch is going blind! [Bet it’s PCs lol] and she cant write by dictating it to others so she will have to stop writing when her sight goes. But I hope she can learn brail and have some gadget that will read what she has written back to her for corrections or something! Meanwhile she is writing as many hours as her eyes are open!
If I went blind I think my life would stop too. I guess I could handle loosing my sense of smell or my hearing but not my sight!
Chookas that none of us do! ♥

Alyssa, Oh you are a poet extraordinaire!!!!!!!! This is absolutely awesome…the whole tone of this
poem just touches the heart and draws pictures….Chookas..Sally xxxxxxxxxxxooooooooo

  • Thank you so much Sally!
Yes his art is stunning [did you look at it large scale? the pixels are brilliant! ☼]
Wish my eyes were that green but they’re all sorts of colours. Michael [son] (aged 7 at the time) told me that my eyes looked like mini worlds – blue and brown and green with bits of gold!

wonderful piece, i too have heard of collen mcCulloch loosing her eyesight, but there is a programme for pcs for blind people which type as you talk to it, and reads it back by speaking it back to you too, dawnx

  • I saw a doco on it interviewing her and she finds dictation stifling and can’t create that way! Mind you it was a few years back so I’m not sure if she’s finding a way around it yet! I guess if after she does go blind she has a story burning to get out she may just bight the bullet and get it done however she can! But I know how frustrating it is to try and write with people around you! Not so much their interruptions but you judge yourself harshly and if dictating it will be on every word! you wont want to make mistakes and you don’t want to come across as pedantic and arrogant – so you have to trust the other person completely to be able to write through them! – had we done dictating as part of our education – not taking dictation but giving it – then she could have been more comfortable with it …. hmmmm must remember to include that in my teaching practice – could help people to create even with others about!
    Thanks for that Dawn :O)

oh Alyssa this is wonderful, & inspired by a lovely piece too….you’ve really captured something here x

  • Thanx Bex! ☺
I saw that eye and thought of so many things and then knew I had to write something to it.
The fear of losing sight is escalated by my love of colours – to not see colour …. how sad would it be?
Thank you for reading my words! ♥
