The awesome art work Where wishes are made by the incredible Ms Kathryn Potempski is the inspiration of this work

It sucked me straight back to my childhood as soon as I saw it, when aged 10, I sat in my tree crying for the loss of my Nanna and my Daddy and my youth.

Thank you Kathryn for the reminder!

‘Starlight Star bright …’

Alison’s body shuddered in a sob and she took a deep breath as she tried to control it.
Gran had said – “Never let the sun set on your tears.”
“Oh Gran! But how do I stop them?”
“Easy, you distract yourself girl.”

Looking up into the darkening sky Alison looked for the tiny star again, feint on the edge of the golden sunset.
‘Starlight star bright, first star I see tonight. Wish I will wish I might, grant this wish I wish tonight’
She closed her eyes tight and thought of Gran’s smiling face.
‘Let me grow up as Gran would have wanted me to be, the best I can be, it’s all she asked for, so it’s all I can hope for.’

As she looked back up to the sky the sun slipped away and the star grew in brightness.

feelgood writing! Nicely conveyed message. Joni Mitchell has a song ‘this flight tonight” on the Blue album with the same words in the chorus – starlight starbright, you’ve got the loving I like, alright…...

    Ta JL! :O)
Joni stole the words from the kids poem like I did lol didn’t you ever make wishes on the first star you saw? – slap your mum for not introducing you to it lol [figuratively speaking! don’t go hitting your mum now! speaking as a mum – we love our mums we love our mums (subliminal conditioning here) [my kids would add – “Fried with little boiled potatoes on the side!” lol] – but I digress]] uuuummm where was I ? Oh yeah
Disney used it in his “When you wish upon a star” thingy too! see I’m in exulted company and thus [by default] so are you! ☺ lol ☺
Thank you for coming to read my words!

Excellent in so many ways for me since my grandmothers vital to my path. You’re good at dialogue as well.

Thank you for coming to read my words!
I lost my Nanna when I was 10 but still I consider her to have been the strongest supporter of my talents – it was she that said “Write your stories down and one day you will be rich!” well I’m writing them …. $$??
I was taught once by an education writer how to do dialogue right – the single ‘’ marks are for Talking and the double “” are for quotations – recounting what had been said!
and the speech is to start on a new line per speaker
She also taught us that all creative writing is justified, you no longer indent at the beginnings of paragraphs and spaces can be used for changes in the focus or pauses for effect
and like poetry, that the LOOK of a written passage is included in the enjoyment of the message of the passage
Now to get RB to adopt these and perhaps ….
    never mind ☺
Thank you for connecting with my words!
