~ Once there were Sheep ~
Poetry inspired by the shot of Darren Stones of the sheep yards at Parwan
When once this country rode on the sheep’s back now we are in danger of not having any. What will we do when all the flocks have gone?

Millions upon millions
in flocks strong and deep
healthy and happy
with farmers who could sleep
knowing their work was good
But with sheep came the people
living and breathing
worshiping money and the steeple
using up all the resources
and not considering the consequential
felling all the trees and wasting all the water
And now we have fences
around miles and miles of red dirt and dust
evidence of the consequences
the flocks have dwindled, herds diminished
when will man come to his senses
when we have nothing left?

Bravo! I’ve asked this same question for decades…..and unfortunately it’s too little too late now, when man looks at all his in-humanity and says “oh no”!

Thanks Shilo
We really are stupid for a species that’s meant to be intelligent. Hindsight is all fair and well but a bit of foresight wouldn’t go astray!

Excellent poetry, adgray. What you’ve written is so true and the lack of rain must be causing heartache and sheer desperation deep inside our farmers. To see the land and farmers’ dams bone dry is shocking.
I saw faces yesterday that exhibited close to despair.

My heart is in the country it always has been even though I have been stuck living in suburbia all my life
When I see how the city folk live without any thought of how precious water is my blood boils or how they think Farmers are wingers cos their life is relatively easy and they’ve always had droughts & floods to contend with! ..... gggggrrrrrrrr >/
but as Shiloh said – perhaps we are too late to save it and then I wonder what will happen? I mean we can’t eat virtual lamb or beef or virtual grains! Perhaps meals of dietary vitamin pills will become the norm.
