Tired feet always make it home
Just around the bend
Your step lightens at the sight of it hiding
Just around the bend
The old dirt road packed so hard slopes down to ease the load you carry
Just around the bend
You can feel the coolness in the shade of the trees out of the blistering sun
Just around the bend
There’s a waft of stew on the breeze, of cakes and scones and bread drawing you onwards
Just around the bend
And the tinkling of the piano too accompanying the soft lull of song “Amazing Grace”
Just around the bend
How many years have you trod this path pony, stock drives, cycles, cart and car garaged now
Just around the bend
The mates that have come accompanied too, sisters suiters, and the girl to meet your mum
Just around the bend
Echoes of laughter and running bare feet watching children chasing chooks and lambs
Just around the bend
Official visitors dreaded in the end begging for time for help for reprieve – rain and good times returning
Just around the bend
It waits ever peaceful willing to serve this house this home this haven of old
Just around the bend
Slowly now nearly there will this be the last trip home
Just around the bend

Just around the Bend

Another poem inspired by a gorgeous Red Bubble artist – Col Brown

Please browse through Col’s awesome art and Enjoy! :O)

    Awesome, awesome awesome stuff!!!!

YOu just keep getting better and better, with such a variety and richness to your writing.
This one is just wonderful, differing from some of your other writing, and draws you in, like a magnet or a falme…mesmerising, tantalising, captivating and myth making/telling…

Such a wonderful tale is told in these few lines, as can also be seen in the painting.

    Romance of days past!!!

    : )

Thank you Jan – I had that riff stuck in my head – Just around the bend and it nearly drove me round the bend until I sat and wrote and then the story came out :O) It’s a bit like my “At the Gate” one but Life is like that :O)
Thanks again for reading my words! :O) Chookas! ♥

A very touching and almost haunting quality to this Alyssa, my friend – just beautifully written – with just the right amount of sentimentality and nostalgia. Lovely rhythm too! Great job, my friend!
