London Bridge 1990

This is one of the last shots of Victoria’s London Bridge – Great Ocean Road – taken from the island looking north back to the mainland…. just as one of the coasts famous storms slowly gathered.
We were there the day it fell – very bloody scary! lol
We came off it and was on our way back to the cars when
CRACK ROAR SPLASH!!!
There were people caught on the newly formed Island and this was the time of no mobile phones! So someone had to drive to town to call for help. It was hours later but finally a chopper arrived to pick up the stranded people and we could all go home relieved!

UPDATE!
An AWESOME Photographer Mr Darren Stones has posted a shot of this bridge as it is now from the headland in the background of my shot.
The point on the island now nearest the broken section is where my girlfriend stood for this shot!

Life is meant to be lived!
Keep Happy! :O)
Chookas! ♥

What a sensational story, I remember going out on this thing as a kid thinking it was ready to go then with those big cracks. Thank goodness you weren’t on it when it fell. Could of made yourself a fortune if you got a pic of it in the act of falling. Lucky to not be on it but unlucky not to see it go. Thanks for sharing the memory.

Thank you everyone for your comments on this :O)
Yes I did feel relieved I was not on it but at the same time a little let down that I missed out on the fun of being trapped and airlifted off! :O) But knowing my luck had I been the one left on I would have to do the abseiling and boat trip instead of the chopper lift! <)
abseiling? Well I loved abseiling [still do though I can no longer do it! Bloody spinal injuries] just not the landing in the deep treacherous old briny <( ugggghhhh !!! Cant swim to save myself in a pool – I’d have no chance in a stirred up sea!
    Chookas all of you! :O)
