When we first met we were inseparable
We just couldn’t get enough of each other
And I knew from the get-go
That you were more than just another lover

As the days turned into weeks and months
What at first was infatuation and lust
Slowly started to solidify into something more solid
And soon enough I’d started to trust

As time went on and we got know each other more
I began to realize you were the one –
That I felt at home in your company
And together everything would always be fun

When I asked you to marry me
You answered with tears of delight
We were 2 years into us
And the time was just right

I’ll never forget the day you told me you were having our child
I had never felt more alive and proud
You were giving me the greatest gift – a family
I was happier than I ever thought allowed

And when our child was born
My love of you completely enveloped me
I would and did do any and everything for you -
I was so blinded with love I couldn’t see

I knew that those feelings were not permanent
That they would settle into something more benign
But I always knew that at the core of us would be my love
Of the greatest thing I’d ever achieve – this family of mine

I know as a husband I made mistakes
And I accept the consequences for what I’ve done
You’ve every reason there is to be angry with me
But why are you punishing our son?

I accept that you and I are over
That the greatest love of all time is through
I just want you to know that as the mother of my child
There is nothing that will ever stop me from respecting you

I don’t hate you for keeping me from my son
It just makes me very sad
You know one day he’ll look back at you in anger
For him missing this time with his dad
