God Save the Queen

Melancholy moves in on me
And I’m then more the me you know
More the one you’ve grown into
Since the days of red wine on balconies

Yes,
They are the days I miss
For I was me and you were mine
And God was in his heaven

But somewhere along the way
God and you swapped places
I got confused
And stepped inside

The balcony wasn’t the shelter of you
Once you left
And the Shiraz
Just got me drunk

Church offers the solace of solidarity
That states me into sense
And hence my search for you
Is solidified into sin

And God granted me nothing
That I wasn’t getting on Earth –
Nothing –
So what’s the point I asked

And you answered
You said I think you’re kind of nice
And I really want you as a friend
And something else

I can’t recall the rest of what you said
As the tears have blurred the words
And then you were God
And I am alone.
