No Comfort...

No Comfort... by Adam Stone

No Comfort...

Drawn 2008. Age 21.

There’s a very personal meaning to this picture, but i will reframe from sharing because I don’t want to influence your own ideas for the image :-)

The young boy in this image is a character strongly influencened by myself and will be the design used in other emotively evoked works that inspire back to my childhood… and ultimately presented as illustrations in my book.

This was drawn quite quickly with a black biro pen, then polished up a little on photoshop, where I cleaned the whiteness and brought out the darker shades.

No Comfort... belongs to the following groups:

A Novel Idea, Art and Stories Made For Children, Art Appreciation, Back In Black, Character Development, Childhood, Illustration - Artwork for narrative content, Short stories - Spherical Scriptings, The Drawing Board, The Healing Journey and Writers' Market

The mood is well portrayed: I like the way you shaded and hatched this drawing. A soft gradient surrounds the flickering candle light, but as you get further away from the source of comfort, it gets dark, and harsh – less comforting; which is defined by the diagonal hatch. The light from the candle does not shine forever; it will go out eventually, and the little boy can feel uncomforting darkness taking over his room as the candle wax melts away…

I very much like what you did here and it was interesting to read of your technique of drawing with black biro and then carrying on in Photoshop.
