Wishful
2008. Age 21.
This was drawn in pencil and outlined in black biro pen. I used watercolours to add colour and then finally polished up a little in photoshop.
This picture was inspired by an image I saw in the magazine ‘ImagineFX’ (whilst cheekily flicking through in the shop!). I had no reference whilst drawing this, just used the image left printed in my mind, so how close it is to the original inspiriational piece I cannot say.
I didn’t want it to look the same tho… I wanted her to look a little sad and dreamy, like she is waiting for someone.

There is so much detail, swimming amongst a sea of colour; an exotic bloom above her breasts, it’s petals iridescent and effusing a ghostly light. Copious drops of color cluster together at it’s core, minute flower-heads, each one a diminutive reflection of it’s larger self.
It feels like gazing out over at a vast ocean at dusk, the horizon holding both the promise of a dream fulfilled and a poignant wish for one which can never be.
The colours will slowly fade, blossoms may wither and die, yet her dream remains undimished by time, sustaining her.
