No Comfort
Drawn 2009. Age 22.
The boy sat in the dark isolation with an aching heart…
He was overwhelmed by the psychological agony that was pushing him towards despair, towards desolation. He tried to stay awake to avoid tomorrow, desperately fighting sleep, but like the inevitable wash of the natural tide or the brilliant glow of the rising sun, slowly his struggle to stay awake ceased as his eyes were overcome by tiredness…
- Drawn on white smooth bristol board. 2H, 3B pencil, black biro pen, water colours and digital paint.

Thank you RavenSoul… What a super quick response!
I don’t think i’ve ever got such an enthusiastic ‘wow’ before :-) Thank you again for your support.

Wow indeed; you’ve mastered the technique of drawing by hand and computer. The contrast of lighting and shadow on the smooth body of the boy is remarkable. The overall contrast of the whole image evokes the mood; very much like the chiaroscuro in Baroque paintings.

What an incredibly insightful comment Mui-Ling, thank you… I’m chuffed to bits you think i’ve ‘mastered’ the technique, ha, i wouldn’t say so but your words are very encouraging. I’ve still got a long, long way to go but it’s very exciting to see the steady progress… Though I have to admit I think it’s my patience that improving the most!
This is the first of many ‘re-dos’ i’m hoping to complete before the end of the year (a lot of my previous works are simply quick sketches…, i’m hoping to re-draw them to this standard) – so I hope you like those too.
Thanks again Mui-Ling, take care x
