my 11 year old son was just diagnosed with bi-polar. it’s a devastating illness. both my uncles have it. it breaks my heart watching him go so low… i feel so helpless. i can related to this image. so many people can.

Oh Adz, I’m sorry I missed this one! Oh dear me, that boy was sitting there sad and lonely and I passed him. Now I give him a big tight hug asking for forgiveness – though now he is not alone, he’s been favourited and watched by many, and his once dark world brightens up as the white light at his left crawls over to comfort him.

I remember the first draft Adz – though I wouldn’t simply call it a first draft but a part of the story which has come to this.

Thankyou for your kind words. This is also one of my favourites, this and ‘Sleepy Beauty’ (i think that one will always be that ‘lil bit more special because its of Morris, bless him).

Emptiness though was drawn from raw emotion. It’s not my most detailed drawing by any means, but it, i feel, says so much.

I’ve tried for years to get Bristol board…no go in this State (South Australia), don’t know about the rest of the country…just wanted to try it out..Is it just like illustration board Adam or does it have some special qualities that are advantageous to the illustrator?

Thank you for your comments… though i’m sorry to see it reminds you of one of your own children! It isn’t nice to feel that sense of emptiness, but it must be pretty awful for a loving parent to observe such a distressed state of mind.

In regards to Bristol board…. It’s lovely to work with. It’s really smooth and clear and allows an effortless free-flowing movment with a pen or a pencil. The type i use has absolutely no texture to it, which may not suit some artist’s styles, however for me personally, its my favourite paper type (though i must admit, until recently, all i used to draw on was scrap paper!). It can be a bugger too though… for instance it tends to be almost impossible to rub something out completely unless your draw very lightly… The pencil nib embeds into the paper a little you see, but this in turn can work wonderfully when drawing fur or hair. Anyhoo… blah blah. Sorry to ramble on!
