This is my first horse portrait. It was a commissioned drawing and the original belongs to a gentleman called. Mr. J. Eagles.

I’ve been drawing this on and off for the past week or so and have been experiencing mixed emotions from very happy to oh-my-god this is horrible! I’ve probably made more mistakes in this drawing then any other… But thankfully, and hopefully, it was worth it in the end. Its definitely helped me to appreciate how interesting horses are to draw…

They really can be difficult, but despite a few hair pulling-out moments, i really did enjoy drawing this one. Definitely a first of many… I hope at least.

The fine fur strokes and sparkling eyes are very notable in you works Adz; the eyes in contrast to the fur make them so alluring and look like a window to the soul – I can sort of see the Plar characteristic here; the delicate strokes of the fur with bold eyes remind me of your Plars with their fragile form and alluring eyes.- must your ideas of Plars be inspired by animal instincts and their spiritual nature?

The ideas behind my Plar characters do indeed relate to animals… esp at heart. Animals are so much more at peace with the earth then we are… They see things differently, they understand how everything works, how everything flows, how everything drifts along together in harmony. Or, rather, how it should. We, sadly, destroy that balance… but my Plars, like animals, are one with the nature. They see things for how they truly are, not fixated on stubborn belief, not tainted by misconceptions. So yes, you are absolutely right – I had always wanted to portray the instinctive and spiritual nature of animals and I’m actually chuffed to bits you’ve pointed that out! :-)

I had always avoided drawing horses before this one, however I must admit having now drawn this i’m actually very keen to try another. Maybe next time concentrate on the whole body… Yep, i think that’s what i’ll do.
