Black Stilt-Legged Fly

Was hard to tell if this was an Ant, Fly or Wasp.. After taking this shot, and looking up close, was obvious it was a species of fly, and after 2 or 3 hours of rumaging through web pages, I found it’s type. Photographed in my backyard, was sitting on a Halicon plant leaf.

This is an absolutly brillient shot. How big is this creature, say compared to a 5c coin etc?

  • Adam Gormley replied

Hi Ross, this guy was about 10mm long, slightly smaller than a 5c coin :) Cheers mate!!

Thanks Adam. I would be very interested to know what setup you use to get these close shots. I looked at a macro lense for my 400D but was priced out of reach for me at this time, so got some magnifying leses, which screw onto my existing lense, but the result was just “ordinary”
    Cheers.
