Moonset over Noosa River
Finally I got some luck with the Full Moonset and no clouds.. Not a cloud in sight this morning, and the moon was beautiful setting over Mount Cooroy. I have been doing tests lately with composition of moonrises and moonsets. If you take the shot with a massive zoom, from a few 1000 metres away, the moon is beautiful and large! I have learnt to throw away the 10mm lens for these kind of shots!
Moonset of Thursday, 6th August, 2009 – 6:04am. Over the Noosa River, Noosa Sound, looking over Noosaville.
Canon 5D Mk II, 800mm (400mm + 2x Tamron). Available very large, and best viewed Large!

Well done Adam. Very nice indeed.
P.S. It must have been nice and chilly at that time. :)
Adam Gormley replied
Thanks a bunch Matt, wasn’t too bad this morning actually.. I was surprised the moon was so distorted right on the horizon, about 3 minutes after this shot. I thought is was the heat that made it do that, maybe the earth is still hot I guess.. ?

What size “massive zoom” did you use? One that costs 30.000$?
Adam Gormley replied
Nah, just a Sigma 120-400 with a 2x Tamron.. You’ll need a tripod of course, and remote shutter. So many shots get ruined by the slightest of shake. I usually have the lens and stuff in the description too :)
Tanya Snowden
Awesome shot Adam! Sounds like you must have had an early morning too, I was awake since 4am, so decided on some sunrise shots at Currumbin… Great time of day, but geez I’m feeling it now!

You really need to check out this thread on DPReview, if you haven’t already. This picture has generated a bit of a firestorm over there as to whether the image is “real” or not. Here’s the link: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=32603937

Adam, I think it is a beautiful image. Was reading the link posted above by JerryDaMan at dpReview; I apologize for some of the people that feel that if the image wasn’t taken directly from the camera, with no photoshop work, that it isn’t a real photo. And some of the posters are pretty rude in their comments.

I should have mentioned in my original comment that I also feel that many of the posts were quite rude. I agree that the image is quite beautiful and I would be delighted to have something of that quality in my own portfolio. Very nice work.
Adam Gormley replied
Thanks bunches for the comments and letting me know about this mate! I think it’s great that people debate about it, means I have successfully pulled off something out of the ordinary.. I appreciate your support.. Once again, thanks mate!!
