The Dish

The Parkes radio telescope, made famous by the movie “The Dish”. Approaching this thing at 2am was rather erie, no one for miles, just you and this automated 64 metre wide radio telescope, scanning the skies for new stars and planets.

This was an important part of the 1969, Apollo 11 moonwalk event. Now operated by CSIRO, scanning the skies 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Two-thirds of the 1,800 known pulsars, including the only binary pulsar system, were found using this telescope.

Canon 50D, 12mm, light cropping. Parkes, NSW – 7:07am.

The Dish belongs to the following groups:

Australian Contemporary Photography, Australian Landmarks and Icons, Dawn and Dusk Light, First Things, JPG Cast-Offs, Miniatures and Mammoths, Stillness Speaks **Max 2 uploads per day** {{No NUDES, ABSTRACT, CANDIDS or ACTION IMAGES}} and The Addicted Photographerâ–º2 Per Dayâ—„ Available for sale as

This ‘scope actually transmitted the Apollo 11 images to the rest of the world, so it played an integral role in the most famous lunar mission of them all.
