Banded Brown Tree Snake

Banded Brown Tree Snake

Banded (Northern) Brown Tree Snake. I love the “gecko” type eyes on these snakes, but they are not for loving pets. these can get very aggressive with several strikes to a victim if they feel threatened. They are a venomous snake, however their venom fangs are set in the back of the mouth, so it takes a rather large one to inject venom into a human.

This species was introduced to Guam in WWII, and since had multiplied into huge numbers, seriously threatening the bird fauna there. This is one of the only reptile species that became an introduced pest anywhere in the world.

Canon 50D, 85mm. Sydney Wildlife World, Darling Harbour. Available Large! :)

Banded Brown Tree Snake belongs to the following groups:

It is a shame that a beautiful reptile is such a pest. I love the colors and yes the eyes are, well they don’t look as nasty as he apparently is. Great Job!

Youre the man adam .. in making a close and darn good shot of this ?? well ‘nasty’ creature..:-)
You know .. we have MANY nature programs from AUSSI land .. started years ago with : BushTucker man
And than Steve the Crock wrestler and lovely wife ? Terri or Sherry ? .. Strange and tragic he was killed by a stingray..
Lately we have this bearded sort of bloke / chap who wolks bare feet trough the outback for us .. the watchers..
Oh .. and here I got caaried away.. Ever seen your Aussie ” Wolf Creek ’’ ? A real horror.. got nothing to do with RB.. but still
Cherio Adam.. and again .. a ‘killing ’ shot here

Thanks John for the lovely comment mate! It’s a real shame about Steve Irwin, he was an idol in my growing up and lead me to nature and conservation. I’m sure he touched well over a billion souls with his passion and work.

Have a good one mate, Crikey!
