Fair Warning!

Adam Gormley

Fair Warning!

I can’t believe there is less than 250 Sumatran Tigers in the wild today, and at least 2-5 a DAY are being killed for skins and alternitive medicines. It sadens me a great deal to know this…

For every framed print I sell of the 3 tiger photos I upload to RedBubble, I will donate $5-$15 depending on frame size to the Wildlife Warriors – Tiger fund.

This will help save the magestic animals from poachers in their native habitat. We have to help these tigers, because they can’t help themselves.. It’s up to us!

Canon 50D 300mm, Australia Zoo. Butterfly carefully added, no I’m not that lucky!! :)

Nominated to Pay it Forward by Susanne Correa here is what she said about it:

“I would like to pay it forward to Adam Gormley
I love his work, he is very talented and most importantly he cares about the wildlife and tries to help. I picked this Image because I love the Butterfly on his nose and how real it looked.”

Thanks very much Susanne, much appreciated!!

This is fantastic ! I just wanted to add that they are not being killed for medicines it’s ego and superstitions. Things like helping a man out with being strong in sex and body parts hung in home for pertection . I t is also for greed plan and simple. one who gets a tiger skin can feed their family for a year. so of course look what happens. the haves and the have nots. that is the MAIN killer of these amazing animals… and that’s why it isn’t getting any better.

I am with you, it is VERY sad and angers me deeply. >;( to loose a top predator and one of a kind animal because of this non sense, this stupidity, is’t just beyond my understanding.

  • Adam Gormley replied

Hi Patricia, firstly, thanks for the wonderful comment :) Have you seen the many asian medicines that are available, and sell for quite some money, made from tiger bone, ground down, and parts of their body are apparently healing omens? Just what I read, it could be a simple bi-product of the actual reasons you listed above.

Yes I have, and non of them have been proven to do anything at all exept kill tigers. They have no medical value what so ever. It is so ingrained in the culture that thwy work. Science say no. Tho I understand thier need, I can’t relate to holding on to such beliefs while a whole species dies for nothing what so ever.
Sorry didn’t mean to put the negitive on you fantastic art or your report. this is with out a doubt one of THE cutest tiger shots I have seen!

  • Adam Gormley replied

No need to be sorry, I understand your feelings because I have them too.. I really do appreciate the comments :)

  • Patricia Anne McCarty

    Patricia Anne ...

It’s nice to be able to bring up such things. But we must be respectful to the Chineese as a whole. When I was younger and first found out how and why tigers were slaughtered I really started to dislike them as a people because I was so angered. I had some very patient friends who grinned it a baered it with me and educated me as a human about other humans. I also found out not all of China’s people think so little of tigers. This kind of subject can be so touchy for people because we are dealing with a culture and a group of people as well as tigers. It so hard to be human sometimes. But boy I feel more tiger than human in this type of case , LOL nice to know someone else does too.
    :)

  • Adam Gormley replied

Hehe, yeah, I agree.. I think a culture can learn to change traditions, it’s been done millions of times in the long history of mankind. If they were abundant, not a problem, no matter how beautiful they are. It’s like aboriginal Australians eating turtles I guess.

4500? We should be so lucky. The current Effective Wild Population of the Sumatran Tiger is 250 individuals. This is about 40% of the actual wild population (around 600 individuals). The Effective Wild Population consists of those adults within the wild population capable of producing offspring.
The biggest threat to Sumatran Tigers is actually not poaching, but habitat loss, and conlict with humans (over livestock loss, encroachment etc.).

    Lovely picture though, very amusing.
