Like its close relative, the North American Black Widow, this spider is venomous. Deaths are very rare but it can inflict a nasty bite that will make you pretty sick for a while and, in some cases, even hospitalise you.
black spider redback arachnid widow
And yet it has a strange beautyj
Oh absolutely, jesika! Spiders are totally fascinating, I love ‘em. And I, for one, DO think they’re beautiful!
Again, excellent capture Trevor – love the shine on the body!
Thanks Anne Marie – the ring flash reveals a lot that you don’t see with the naked eye!
But he is beautyful…..!!!!!
He (she?) sure is, Yool!
Too much for the arachnophobiac ….agggghhhh
Ahhhh, go on, she’s gorgeous!!!
No spider is that gorgeous – eight legs and can move quicker than I can …..enough said! I can see her beauty ….the thought of the reality makes my body crawl…lol
I understand the way you feel, taiche – she is a dangerous creature. However, her fate is in our hands rather than the other way around! It is enough for me that you are able to appreciate her beauty and I appreciate you taking time to look and comment!
Yes there is a subtle beauty to these very small little creatures. Have been bitten—extremely painful; and I mean painful! Fortunately no systemic problems. Daughter used to breed them in a coca cola bottle in the Australian outback then “set free”. Great capture!
Thanks Dusker – notwithstanding my previous comments, I think I would draw the line at breeding redbacks, there are already plenty of them!
Wow! This is so much a better shot than mine! I don’t have a close-up lens (yet)…
Thanks Denzil – much appreciated!
Excellent Detail, well shot
