This is a wild kookaburra but is obviously used to people as it let me get to within 5 or 6 feet of it. Taken in the gardens at Araluen, WA.

    they are beautiful birds, and their laughter is truly maniacal….and hilarious…...
    This is a great shot!
    (but I have to say, it is a shame they are such ruthless killers of smaller birds…...where we live, we try to scare the kookas away….. )

    sad but true….I always feel mean chasing them away, because here on the farm I LOVE the sound of that laughter!!!! But I just try to keep them away from my garden and the little blue wrens….....
