Monk business
Bayon Temple, Angkor Thom, Cambodia
Built in the late 12th century or early 13th century as the official state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon stands at the centre of Jayavarman’s capital, Angkor Thom. Following Jayavarman’s death, it was modified and augmented by later Hindu and Theravada Buddhist kings in accordance with their own religious preferences. (Thanks to Wikipedia).
Here you see a Buddhist monk surveying the temple ruins. Six hundred years ago a similar monk may have stood here surveying the newly built temple.

This one would “twin” brilliantly with a little gem from khosie, I love the stare and the contrast between colour and grey, keep up the good work.

Dayonda
A very young monk. The photo is amazing in the antiquity of the building vs. the youth of the monk. And the gray-green of the building vs. the monk’s robes. It’s an excellent composition!

This is a wonderful image with a history!! Was he actually posing for you? Or does he always just stand that way and you grabbed a great candid? Either way, I really like this one, Trevor!!
Trevor Needham replied
Thanks Deb, for a great comment. He was just standing there looking dreamily into the distance! A bit later on he had walked down closer to us and I asked him if I could shoot his portrait. He was more than happy to let me.
