Alpine Marmot (Marmota marmota)
I’ve just returned from another fabulous stay in south-west France. I was fortunate enough to take a train trip through the Pyrenees mountains where I spotted this fellow.
The Alpine Marmot (Marmota marmota)lives at heights between 800 and 3,200 metres and it thrives in this part of the Pyrenees. According to Wiki an adult Alpine Marmot may weigh between 4 and 8 kg and reach between 42–54 cm in length (not including the tail, which measures between 13–16 cm on average). This makes the Alpine Marmot the largest squirrel species.
Gear: Nikon D80, AF-S NIKKOR 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 G ED

Alpine Marmot (Marmota marmota) belongs to the following groups:
Animal Kingdom, European Everyday Life (add the place!), Live, Love, Dream: and Photographic France Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters

Oh what a gorgeous capture of my cousin!!! I hear the French marmots are much more sociable to tourists than us Italian ones! What a lovely garden he has! Love it! ;o)

Thanks Krys! This guy and his friends seemed to have very little fear of people. Not sure if they are actually bolder or just greedy and looking for handouts from the tourists. Either way they were pretty cute! :)
