My Red Bubble site is a joint venture.
There is myself (Paul Atkinson) and my work colleague and friend Dave Parker. We both live in England in the county of Cumbria, on the fringes of the Lake District. However, in relation to each other, we are almost geographical opposites.
I live in Maryport, a small fishing town just to the north of the town of Whitehaven. Maryport is a very old town, with connections dating back to Roman Britain and is located on the north western fringes of the Lakes on the Solway estuary. Its history, covering 2000 years, boasts a Roman Fort, Georgian buildings, Victorian docks, and industries which have included coal mining, iron making, shipping and shipbuilding and many fascinating links with famous men and historical events. With sweeping views, shoreline walks, golf links, coastal sailing, lively pubs and memorable summer festivals. Here you can experience a maritime history of two thousand years of the sea, visit the many attractions and unique shops, and discover a Lake District experience with definite difference.
Dave lives in Barrow-in-Furness, located at the southern tip of the Lake District, some 70 miles away from where I live. Barrow-in-Furness is a large industrial town which grew from a tiny 19th Century hamlet to the biggest iron and steel centre in the world, and a major ship-building force, in just 40 years. The railway was introduced to carry iron-ore, slate and lime-stone to the new deep water port. Its prosperity grew with the development of the steel and ship-building industries. Prior to this, in the 11th Century, Furness Abbey and its monks rose to be the second most powerful abbey in the country, second only to Fountains Abbey in York. The Abbey was sacked during the reign of Henry VIII and the ruins are now one of many visitor attractions throughout the area.
So as you can see, we both not only live in one of the most beautiful places in the country but our towns are full of heritage.
We both enjoy photography and we don’t have to travel far to get some great scenery. However, our site shows much more and also from places as afar as Kauai’i, Las Vegas and New York. This site enables us to finally create an online gallery visible to many.
We have tried to be as descriptive as possible with regards to our photos. We understand some of you out there like the info on what ‘F’ stop was used or what filter, etc, but were not about that. We want you to understand why we took each photo, the meaning, the intent. From this we hope you can capture the essence of what the photo meant to us at the time the button was pressed.
But please remember, this is a work in progress.
We hope you enjoy and further to that, we also hope you purchase!
Happy viewing
Paul and Dave
