One of the 14 million famous red crabs from Christmas Island climbs a tree in the jungle.

Taken with a Canon 5D and 24-105mm lens @ 105mm, f4, ISO 1000, 1/15th sec, handheld

    Its ouch! They are pretty placid! I was walking on a road that has been closed and there was a 1m track up the middle which was clear for me to walk along, with about 1000 crabs either side scurrying about! Wait til you see a pic of a robber crab, will upload soon! They are MONSTERS! (In size but not in nature, they are harmless unless you try to arm wrestle one!)

    This almost looks like selective color as it takes a moment to register the background after seeing the vivid color of the crab. Great shot!

    Ha, thanks, pushing my hand held limits thats for sure, haha! It was pretty dark in there and i hate using flash for nature stuff.

    creepy crawlies everywhere… hmmm.. wondering if you went to sleep in a tent, would you wake up with red crabs.. yikes. Pretty and bright they are.. I’ve seen on TV the migration when they go across the road. That must be something to see.
