G’day Alex,
They do have the most intense stare!
A great head study of this magnificent Aussie raptor, concentrating on the eye and drawing the viewer right into the scene.
Great exposure in good light and beautifully focussed.
Highoghts and contrast have been very well controlled and the colours are wonderfuly natural.
As Michael Palin said in the Monty Python Parrot Sketch, “Beauuuuutiful plumage!”
The impact of that eye is very strong and the photograph is a delight to view.

All that Dennis has said, Alex! I follow the exploits of the Scottish Ospreys via webcam, but this shot shows the regal majesty of our own Aussie Ospreys. Wonderful shot, and straight into my favourites!

Magnificent shot Alex. And congrats on the feature, well deserved! Coincidently, I was photographing a pair of Pied-billed Grebes and their two chicks yesterday in a nearby pond and had the visit of an Osprey. He circled the pond three times(and created havoc for the ducks) before diving for a fish. Stand by… I will be posting it soon. Again Alex, fine job of this photo..

How great to see this guy straight on. Fantastic shot. Fav!
I used to watch them in my back yard, circle and dive bomb for fish. They are magnificent to watch fish. (Of course I’m watching them from the U.S. east coast, but certainly they’re related and probably well-traveled. ;)
