Island

We live in a free nation
Not worried about class or station
Controlled by the media, fashion
We ration out love to the highest bidder

Kidders lining the streets of oblivion
Waiting for their next step towards a million
Who wants to be a millionaire, y’all

But we have it wrong
This greed’s gonna make us fall
Living for decadence, prominence, indulgence
We distract ourselves from reality
Switch on the TV

All around us, bombs bombing, glaciers melting, homeless addicts begging, refugees wailing
And we are sailing on yachts of ignorance
The wind in our hair; why should we care?

In the US of A, it’s every man for himself
I’m an island
No one can touch me
What I do affects nobody!

But we are all part of a living, breathing organism
Leaning on each other for support
We need to do our part
When we care, share
We help the whole universe
Dogs, humans, trees, water, and primordial dust
The truth is, when we function within the greater whole
We’re also helping us
