I wanted to do this with raytraced shadows but after more than 30 mins and only 10% of the render done I had to cease in my futile efforts. My comp can’t handle big resolutions and raytrace at the same time so I had to use conventional shadow maps to speed up the process.
Anyway, onto the story, this is the Silver Butterfly, a strange being that adopted the shape of a butterfly and lurks within the depths of forests, battlefields and other random places. Which its final destination? Apparently, it ends up exploding in a light cascade, absorbing everything around its wings, environment included.
Raw render done in 3dsMax 9.0 and then corrected in Photoshop CS2.
