The Mechanic
Andy is a hardworking mechanic quite often working into the early hours of the morning. The first time i met him, through his lovely wife Amanda, i knew i had to photograph him as he had such a perfect face for B&W work. It was fun working with him and thank him for being such a good sport!! :0)
The Mechanic belongs to the following groups:
Black and White Photography, Shameless Self-Promotion and THE WAIST UP - Portraiture Photography 2 per 24 hour limit

My first question is did you smear the grease on him??
Second question is did you like smearing grease on him??
Third question is it’s funny that you copied my work and gave it a similar title. It looks just like my mechanic.
Okay that last one wasn’t a question.

I like this portrait, sort of ‘I’m in a perfectly good mood now, but it could change sometimes in future…’ ;) Nice contrast of his skin with the wooden wall in background!
Jacqueline Baker replied
Thank you again dear Lenka he looks a bit mean as that was the look we were going for but he’s such a nice guy he spent most of the time laughing and smiling! :0)

Moshe Cohen
Wonderful work Jacqueline.
Reminds me August Sander’s work.
He was a German photographer.
August Sander (1876-1964) is one of the most important and influential German photographers of the 20th century. In “People of the 20th Century” – a monumental cultural photographic project, produced from 1892 to 1954 – Sander mapped out German society by categorizing some 600 portraits according to employment divisions and social structures of the day. He divided his photographs into seven groups: “The Farmer,” “The Skilled Tradesman,” “The Woman,” “Classes and Professions,” “The Artists,” “The City,” and “The Last People,” which treats the subjects of old age, sickness and death. These seven groups he further divided into themed portfolios.
Jacqueline Baker replied
Thank you so much Moshe this is a compliment indeed. I must admit i hadn’t heard of August Sander (what a great name) until you mentioned him so i had a peep at his work. I love his ordinary people shots he just captures something of his subject that is wonderful but what a sad story too. He had some of his plates destroyed whilst in Germany during the war because they disagreed with his photographic records. So sad and i’m so glad i have freedom of speech and artistic creativity but then i guess i’m not in the middle of a war where everyone was under suspicion! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful comment i truly appreciate that and for introducing me to another great photographer! :0)

Jacqueline Baker replied
Thank you so much he is so interesting that i hope to do more but perhaps when the weather is warmer, he took his top off in subzero temperatures and nearly froze bless him! :0)
Moshe Cohen
Hi Jacqueline,
There is an exhibition of August Sander in the Open Museum of Photography Tel Hai – Israel.
You can look here.
Jacqueline Baker replied
Thanks Moshe wish i could be there in person but anyway went on the website mentioned above hoping to see some of his work online but don’t think they are doing that. If you love nearby and pop along let me know what it’s like would be interested to know :0)

I put my mechanic on my front page so it’s easier to discover!
Jacqueline Baker replied
Oh boy your mechanic looks nothing like my mechanic LOL different sex for a start and she’s still got her top on (understandably). She is a gorgeous mechanic tho’ and i guess all the men would much rather see her under the bonnet of their car LOLOLOL ;0)
Von McKnelly
The light! Love it! Adds so much to this B&W…top shelf!
Jacqueline Baker replied
Thank you so much Von glad you like the light so much, it was a snowy day so i think it acted like a reflector!
.......Top shelf? In this country that shelf is usually reserved for the naughty mags wink wink nudge nudge ;0)
Von McKnelly
Ah say no more say no more! Here top shelf refers to liquor….the best is always on the top shelf.
