Spent.

Trying
Too hard
Still reaching for cheese
Like a mouse in a trap
Sprung
Laying between lumber and spring
On a little red “X”
Marked for landing

I’m coming down
Engaging the throttle is a moot point
When you’ve run out of fuel

Racing between
Pipes and copper wire
Pushing and pulling
Dragging and . . .
Dropping

I lay there
Panting
Spent

I tried

Maybe I overstepped my bounds
Released the trigger too soon
But, God
I tried

Still trying

Some people give up too easy. I don’t. I try. Even after I wonder why I’m still trying, I do. I’m not a very patient person, but somehow manage to hold on. Sometimes it pays off. Sometimes it doesn’t. But . . . you never know until you try.
