pushchair on the beach by Deborah Parkin

pushchair on the beach by

It seems ages since I last was out with my camera working on this series. We went back to our caravan this weekend, back to the sea. I noticed one year on that my children are taller and my son more independent, but other than that, not much had change. Fleur still insisted on taking things that have no relevance to what we are doing, such as taking a pushchair down to do some rock pooling, complete with a flower crown.

I have work to upload but because I didn’t have time to comment on others it felt a bit cheeky posting :) Will try and catch up one day.

What I love is that we can both head to the beach yet come back with completely different shots Deb. (p.s. how long have I got to wait until Hannah keeps pushing a pushchair around the place then?)

The focusing works well, a real feel of nostalgia and what I really get is innocence in abundance.
I believe the way you present your work has a real timely feel to it, somewhere set in the 50’s / 60’s. Nothing modern in the shots, a faded aged edge to the sjots and black and white, coupled with the choice of subject of childhood, all you can possibly get from this image is children having fun on the beach, no X-Box’s, Sky TV, gadgets etc, just a pushchair and the joy of the beach. A return to the halyconic days of when enjoyment could be gained from the simplist things in life.

Well that’s my waffled take on it anyway.

i love the contrast between old fashioned/modern in this one. it adds a little bizarre twist to it i think. ;-) xox
