A Winter's Tale
This was taken up at Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland UK – this is a photographer battling against the wind – you have no idea how cold it was that day :)
A Winter's Tale belongs to the following groups:

Beautiful Deb, the best shot i have seen of the “Robin Hood Tree”. This is where in the Kevin Costner film he rescued the young lad who had been hunting deer and was chased by the sheriffs men :)

Simple and effective. A feeling of isolation. Also like the natural, I think, framing by the clouds and light.

So clever – love the way it’s backlit.
Alan Rodmell
Very nice work Debs. For the record I do know how cold it was :D and it was too cold to be out where you were. Love the fruits of your labour though. Very ghostly…... love the softness to the sky.
Good work

Deborah, this is so rich and beautiful… melancholy surrounds this tree, but the branches are so alive with the promise of spring. I love where your art takes me, and everything you do is a masterpiece of mood and romance. Thanks for being on RB!

Wonderful Wonderful work.
Stuart Chapman
Landscape Deb? (Quick someone take her temperature LOL – It must have been cold, forcing your finger on the shutter before some people could enter your shot.)
Well. That sums up winter alright. Leafless, bare, alone and that mist lingering across the scene just dips the temperature by a few more degrees. Nicely positioned tree too, looks strong against the elements.
halftone
Wow Deb, this is absolutely wonderful!
pinkyjain
What an awesome photo Deborah. It looks cold & so misty. Is the dark object on the left a person? Looks so eerie, cool
Treecreeper
Gorgeous! It feels quite spooky actually – a great samhain card maybe?

I love the tittle, and the way the light is battleing to come through the mist. The line of the ground, and you’ve immortalised another tree. Thanks for facing the cold Deb, it’s beautiful.

Beautiful, haunting …what an amazing image .
whitecrow
You know what I like about your work? It’s “fragile” quality. It’s almost like your images have two sides; an innocent, joyful side and a darker forboding side as well.The resulting dichotomy is what I find so interesting. And if that was never your intent…well then we never had this conversation… :-)
Deborah Parkin replied
Hi Carl
Thank you so much for this wonderful comment – you have a great perception about my work – i couldn’t have put it better. Someone said not so long ago that i have a lot of ‘inner demons’ – i was shocked as he doesn’t know me very well and everytime i see him i am cheerful – he said it is reflected in my work – he was right as are you – so thank you for that :)
Himiona Grace

I love all your work…..The ethereal quality of the capture is truly outstanding…Amazing.
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
~Joyce Kilmer, “Trees,” 1914
Alistair Wilson

The tree is encircled initially by light, and then by a rim of darkness . Well worth the cold!
