Great shot the lighting is spot on. Its nice to see some none digital images. I love the rawness of the Holga images. How easy are they to use. I assume being a simple bit of kit they don’t have a meter system?

  • Deborah Parkin replied

Hi Ian, the Holga is really easy to use but so far i am only a beginner and it is hit and miss at how successful i am. I love its rawness though – they are really fun too – so light and plastic – you can tape them together to stop light leakage – but i quite like the leakage, part of the charm. Thanks for the comment too, much appreciated :)

Cool I have just run a film through a Lomography Fisheye camera. I think its the same company that makes the Holga. I have a few good images that I will be posting but most have not worked…The challenge of getting a good image is far harder then digital which I like. Its a steeper learning curve but can be fun.

Deborah, while the equipment changes in your hands; the impressive aspect of each of your images is the quality of the composition and the subject captured; and your ability to transform the light of the spectrum into the wonderful monochromatic tones we find in each of your images. This is a skill not easily mastered; but always skillfully executed with your artistic vision. I will always be a true fan of your work. Drive on! Cheers! Chris

What a beautiful, delicate face he has. Such a beautiful moment in time you catched here. he is almost one with his surroundings. As if the thinker created the surroundings with the power of his thoughts. Love the effect as if the trees are absorbed by the light. As always you transformed a scene of everyday life into a complete novel.

What can I say…you hit another home run here Deb….Her eyes seem to be in a place of such peace and tranquility….not a cre to the world….Is it part of her youth or is it where she is in this world right now…feeling safe and content…The light in the back is really prefect adding just the right amount of light to make her really shine in this image…not shine in the sense of being shiny though….There is a part of this image that has her looking towards the future and what lies ahead for her…..Excellent as always Deb

I’m usually drawn to your subjects but on this one I’m drawn to the background of trees. They look haunting for outsiders but protective of the child. Nice piece Deb.

Once again the natural black framing keeps the shot nice and tight. The blurred edges around the trees pull the focus in perfectly on the subject.

It’s strange how a shot makes you think, without a description, the feeling I get from the trees and light is a late autumnal afternoon, and the first time you’ve had to drag the coats out of the cupboard for many a month.

I do like the way the focus softens after being in the clarity at the centrepoint and looking off shot makes you wonder what is over in that direction, it definately appears to be something to warrant that much focused attention.

If it’s not unfocused attention, the other feeling I get is a reluctance to look at the camera (are we into shades of scary lady with the camera again?)

[Oh, and I maintain that i’m still not good with words, these are just the ramblings of a mad man].
