instant favorite and i really really want to meet this person! great black and white, great vignetting, awesome contrast and brightness. i love how hes so focused on what hes doing, yet he almost seems completely aware that you are taking a picture, but is still managing to stay natural. great shot!
Halcyon007
Great portrait shot Deb. I love the clarity in this. The tones are exceptional and the letterbox is bright, shiny and interestingly placed near the centre.
You don’t need any tips from me Simon:) Apparently (according to those at college) i walk around with my camera held tightly to my chest, cuddling it like a baby – hope that helps LOL!!!!
Only can do it like this, Deb. Great capture and treatment. The lightness of his hands draw attention and makes me wonder what he’s doing. Is he just looking at something small or he rolling a joint to get high in hopelessness? Is he homeless or did he just sit down to get chewing gum out of the pack? There is so much in this picture, I could be wondering about it for hours.
So very human and so very clear, within that unmistakeable Parkin framework of light and emotion, which though unmistakeable is always new. You’re great at what you do Deb.
I don’t know if it’s through vignetting or through your new toy (Lensbaby..heh) but the vignette as with all of them, you’ve gotten down to a science! Mine always look rough in comparison! They surely shine as one of your trademarks…so very well done. :) Very classy work here, and the reflections in the door are the best. (This makes me think of Christmas for some reason..)
Fantastic shot Deb with a great photo journalistic style.. a little different to your usual, but still with a style that has those great dark shadows and stark contrasts.. love the subject and framing of this.
I really wanted to look and think about this one a long time Deb..because I think this one really has a lot of meaning and feeling behind it…it makes you ask a lot of questions about what is going on here…He is very intense and intent on his task at hand…the toning adds so much drama and mystery to the shot….I just love the stillnes to it….it is so calm ,,,Brilliant image for sure
Hey, he is rolling his own sigarettes, like me. Oh, I just love how you can transform scenes of everyday life into scenes of great importance, with also a lot of dramatic value. Yeah, people should never stop writing letters to eachother.
a wonderful sense of place and I love how you’ve positioned him in the frame. He looks so lost in thought, oblivious to you or your camera, so it has a great intensity and mood. Awesome!

Dark and moody, speaks in volumes, wonderful image, could look at it for time
I’m just another fan of this candid street capture – you’ve found the character and the design that make it a really beautiful and true image. Inspiring :-)
Oops how did I miss this? That’s what happens when the activity monitor gets too full lol! Great candid shot. I find black and white works so well for street photography. Glad to see you haven’t lost your high-contrast sigature style lol! Great job , love the composition too.

Great in the moment shot Deb. So much to look at in this shot, love the signs esp. – “use lucas lamps”, the old phone, and just the relaxed look of Gordon and focus on that rollie.. Great work.
