    just gorgeous, really really lovely.
don’t you just love the square format?
    ;-) xox

  • Deborah Parkin replied

Thanks aglaia … I love the square format .. all I use nowadays is medium format .. I am totally hooked .. it slows you down and the depth and tones are beautiful. I am also about to experiment with digital printing (only used wet for these so far) – hoping they will turn out beautifully as it would suit my lifestyle much more. Thanks again xx

I too like the windswept hair! Nice depth of field..just a hint of surf over the shoulder. I would like to think she is desperate to get back to it….or is it the beginning of a ‘not another photo mum’ conversation…..my little boy has started turning his head away so I have to resort to shooting him when he isnt looking!

  • Deborah Parkin replied

Thanks Simon .. so pleased you like it :) Kids don’t even notice the camera anymore – I think they would feel that I was ill if I didn’t have have it lol!!

Ok – don’t take my tweet that personally :) It was only in jest.
Was this the new print you were waiting to pick up?
Thought provoking as usual (hard to see how your work is changing through Uni with only 2 uploads a year :P) and the sharp focus against soft recognisable surroundings works very well indeed.

  • Deborah Parkin replied

haha!! I know you well enough (I think).
Yes this is the print I have sent to Ilford .. they are doing digital printing on silver gelatin and I am interested to see if the print is as good as darkroom. B&W can be tricky in digi printing .. can get a bit of a greenish tone – they say it is as good .. will have to wait and see.

yes indeedy, good on you deb. something so special about handling the whole process from start to finish. you’ve done a great job. good luck with the digital, it’s also good. hehe ;-) xox

  • Deborah Parkin replied

Totally agree aglaia – I am hooked on film but it is difficult to find time for darkroom and I have a load of negs unloved. Just sent this pic of to Ilford as they are doing digital printing on silver gelatin paper – supposed to equal darkroom printing. Will be interested to see result. Love scanning negs too .. means I can do it whilst cooking dinner lol!!

I’ve just recently joined the local photography club and they talk about this stuff, (Taken on rollieflex -scanned neg. etc),which I have no idea about. All I know is your artistic outcome is always so enjoyable to see, and this is beautuful Deb.

  • Deborah Parkin replied

Thanks so much Graham – as always :) Hope you are enjoying your photography club – shall look forward to seeing how it may inspire you.

Wow. A Rolleiflex. Do you develop your own negs??
I think it`s amazing how fast we all moved from film. And it`s even more amazing when I see that someone is still out there shooting on medium format.

I`ve been scanning negs right up till a year and a half ago and have printed all my scans, color and BW, with an Epson Stylus Photo printer. I am as happy with those results (with their own Premium Glossy Photo Paper) as I had ever been with dark room printing… even my infra red shots. If you want, I`ll print one of my BW`s and send it to you. Just let me know which one you`d like. Those printers aren`t expensive and do a better job than any other I`ve seen on the market that cost lots more. If you`re interested, shoot me a BM!

And btw, Little Miss Sunshine is gorgeous.
    xo♥

  • Deborah Parkin replied

    hi billlyboy
Thanks so much for your amazing comment .. yes I do develop my own negs and try and develop in darkroom but have to admit that I am finding it very liberating scanning negs. I love the rolleiflex – it is quite imperfect, which I love. Thanks for you advice – will bmail you.
And glad you like the image too – my portraits are rather personal so it is always nice when someone else likes them too.

Hi Deborah, great life portrait it,s so sweet and so natural,
I’m feeling a little jealous as I had A 2.8 rollei planner a few years ago and just the mention of them brings back happy memories. I love the square and the mono

  • Deborah Parkin replied

Thanks marshall – so pleased you like it. I love my rollei .. got it cheap on ebay – I love medium format and if I ever have the money would love to go down the large format route (here’s to dreaming). Maybe you should get another one heehee!!

  • marshall calvert IPA

    marshall calve...

Don’t tempt me as I still have my darkroom and all the bit and bobs including a few sheets of multigrade fibre

  • Deborah Parkin replied

well it does seem a shame to have that expensive paper lying around doing nothing :)

  • Douzy

    Douzy

Hi Deborah, nice to see you around :) This shot is very sweet with the tilted head and swept hair. It’s a bit different from your previous work as it’s not as contrasty. Love the square cropping. And she’s grown too!

  • Deborah Parkin replied

Thanks Douzy – you’re right – a bit different – it’s the lighting – the beach was really bright but flat, if that makes sense – just couldn’t get the contrast I usually like. Hope you are well and loving every minute of being a mother,xx

This is gorgeous Deb! Sweet, summery, feminine…love her coy pose – makes it a very real and personal portrait. Good luck with the printing experiments :)))

Nobody does B&W like you, Deb. :)
I’ve personally tried to mimick your style and sadly,
fail every time! Your rich gamma, contrast, lights, darks,
etc.. you truly make them your own. Now, I settle for “close”
in my own work, and that’s good enough. ;)

  • Deborah Parkin replied

Thanks Birgitta – lovely to hear from you and have one of your fantastic comments – you say the kindest things:)
Hope all is good in your life xx

yes, a lovely shot, Deborah. I am so glad you’ve acquired a Rollei. You can’t beat a square negative for allowing for the best framing, whether taking the shot or printing it afterwards.
