Beautifully Old

The thing i love about photography is it makes you think and when i saw this tree i saw how beautiful it was and wanted to get an image of it’s roots – roots that were strong and big and displayed their age with pride – but when i saw the image, with a person next to it, i saw how small we are not just in relation to it’s size but but it’s sheer nature and that’s the beauty of photography (for me anyway).

I always enjoy reading your thoughts around a picture. You have such a pleasant way of telling about your line of thought. You really did a lot of justice to this beautiful old and wise tree. It is a facinating play with light and shadow again. I love the transparancy and subtle lining in the background. Yes, they make us look small. But they make us look inpatient too. This gentle giant took ages to become what he wanted to become; people come from school and think they know everything. Great job again!

This is such a grand shot Deb.Apart from the photo of the tree, which you have done proud, it’s huge size is so beautifully acknowledged by someone standing there at the foot. I have an immense fondness for old trees and In the Waipoua Kauri Forest in the North Island of New Zealand you will find Tane Mahuta (Lord of the Forest). This is New Zealand’s largest known living kauri tree It has a 13m girth and stands 52 m tall. According to Maori mythology Tane is the son of Ranginui the sky father and Papatuanuku the earth mother. All living creatures of the forest are regarded as Tane’s children.
You can almost feel Tane Mahuta’s strength and ancient presence, it’s awesome size makes people look like dwarfs. Thanks for adding this to your portfolio….......dare I say it?.......”love it”

Lovely shot….... really brings you back to reality. I’m with you re the trees The tree which moves some to tears of joy, is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity… and some scarce see nature at all.
But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.
