This portrait has so much…beautiful lighting and such a great little subject….he looks so sad or concerned about something and you have nailed it…like Mark im trying to learn portrait photography and this has to be one of the best examples i have seen…wonderful work Deborah

i am never sure if people come back to see if their comments have been responded too but just in case thank you – thanks Mark for your comment – so kind of you to say so – i have seen your work and you will have not problems with portraiture and i suppose that is the good thing about rb – i am always learning from others – and LisaG and TheFatman – you are right to say there is something a little sad – after taking this i sat and had a chat to see if anything was worrying him – finally found out he is nervous about starting year one at school on Tuesday – perfectly normal but huge for him. I try to let my children be protected as much as possible and have the free-spirited world they should have but i suppose there are so many things that are part of growing up that they have to face and sometimes face alone. Abe is a very sensitive boy but he enjoys life to it’s fullest – like the beach, the countryside, animals, flowers – he is definitely natures little boy.

Such beautiful eye’s and wonderful pose!!! you are probably one of the best if not the best at portrait work & black and white on this site- always superb!!!!!!

Thank you Deborah for responding, awwwwww starting year one is a HUGE deal, this all makes so much more sense now for me….it just goes to show, that even our innocence have their worries…

for me its goes beyond all of that..what made this portrait very special to me its because I felt your feeling as a mother towards your son. you manage to express your love towards him in this pictures. Deb…it’s a shot from the heart….a shot of love…and i take a bow for the love that you have towards him … thanks for sharing it and have a great weekend.

Deborah, I am amazed by this photo..it tells a story “not sure what he is thinking” but boy the story of deep thought is awesome…so natural looking.
Yes lighting etc is fantastic, but it’s the natural state of the subject…you cant buy that can you.
