This looks very antiquated (probably totally the wrong word – I’m going for 1920’s looking – oh – you know what I mean!) – like an old photograph found at the bottom of a wardrobe before you have to play the game of who is that in the picture (it must be my mum’s auntie’s mum or someone…..)
Like the dark framing around the edge and the image conjures up a lovely summers day (yes – despite the fact you douse your world in darkness – i can still feel that) when summer holidays lasted forever, lemonade was the best drink in the world and outside was your best source of entertainment.
I can hear the haunting music playing in the background. Fantastic as always - what’s it like having to wait for the processing to see the shots?? LOL I think I’d be a nervous wreck!!
This is lovely Deb. Is it from your weekend session? I love Stuart’s words about summer holidays – climbing trees to see into bird’s nests was like a full time job.
wow deb, this is so nostalgic and dreamy. the tonal quality and vignette add to the whole feel and that fact that it is shot on film gives me a real buzz! ;-) xox
I often feel what you do with a lense is as if you’ve used a brush. In Ghost that brush is so sophisticated and emotional, I think the ghosts of Monet and Renoir must be jealous.lol. An amazing and beautiful work of art Deb. One of your most surprising and brilliant works.
...beaten to the comments again… I think she’s running with a bouquet… when I enlarge the image, the ectoplasm is obscured by a big “k”.... the image feels like a trip back in time… there might be the hint of someone standing in the shadow of the foliage, watching – just above the “o” in the enlargement….So much of your work is about recognizing hints, clues, slowing down to address the image properly and finding oneself drawn in….Also, big-ass letters…. :D
Amazing capture with film. I too am looking at producing some film shots with a Polaroid. I also have some ideas on uses, too both commercially and for friends. Some different options / takes for people who are after something different.
ah Deb, you’ve got the charm factor to the max again! The little running figure, the bunch of flowers and the dreamy processing….all makes for a beautiful emotive image :)
Well, what can I say, I dunno really, hahaha, I never know what to write in these things, so, I’ll just say that I think Ghost is an excellent addition to your portfolio Deborah, yup, another stunning photograph. Well done my friend. :-)
In the days of high definition photography it is refreshing to see you return to the primitive roots of photography to capture such a telling image. Wonderful!
Wow! Ever read Arthur Millers “The Crucible”? A play about the Salem Witch Trials in the late 17th Century and McCarthyism in the 1950s… well the thought of this play jumped ot at me as soon as I saw this image. Really wonderful work Deborah, I love the atmosphere you have created here, such a great evocative piece with lots of stories to be told from it. As always, briliiant, brilliant work!

Great to see someone still doing black and white. This picture reminds me of an aesthetic from the photo-secessionist era. Not a bad influence at all.
