a well known tree and you’ve managed to capture it in your own way, moving to the side adds the gritty rocks which add to the bleak feeling. ( I find the burnt in top corners a bit heavy ) – good work Deborah

hi Deborah a very gritty feel to this image makes this such a strong picture we know it well I would probably go a long with daves comments about the sky ,
Sycamore gap springs to mind if you need a name or is that a bit to abvious?

Good art. Maybe ‘Bleak’ would be a good title? I love what you did with the stony landscape on the foreground. The texturing is just amazing. So rich. The angle is perfect and makes a hero of the tree. Lonely, but content with itself. A work with great tranquillity in it.

  • Rhana Griffin

I think you nailed the title Deb… I mean I can’t really see this being called “Sunshine” or Happy Days” or something similar (insert cheeky grin here) I love the curvature of the hills… its like they are protecting this lone survivor who is teetering on the edge of extinction.

  • Stuart Chapman

Okay, I eventually found this within a fortnight! It’s the scale that intrigues me on this Deb. One minute the tree seems to dominate the scene, the next it seems to blend back against those lovely shaped diagonal rocks.

You call it Bleak, I see Hope. Hope that life springs from adversity. It’s an interesting thing to do. Look at an image and say the first word that comes into your head. You would have nearly a different answer for each coment.

  • shawhouse

I don’t get the title – What’s bleak about the miracle of a tree growing on the surface of the moon? :) Really wonderful treatment and the vignette at the top frames & balances the image, ages it and counters the hillside perfectly…some serious multi-tasking, wow…

  • Gerard Rijs

    Gerard Rijs

Bleak appears pretty accurate for a title to this one. Like the white in the rocks. Makes them look glassy and hard. Like it!
