Headless bodies treading water
on the ceiling
thump thump thump
blood in my ears
geometric shapes
fly at my eyes
stinging them with
their sharp corners
thin green animals
gushing through my
bare toes
a hole in the floor
I put my hand inside
and reach down into
the black nothingness
I grasp a purple leaf
old wet bent slimy
my lungs burn
but then
I climb the ladder
to the surface
of the swimming pool.
