Old and Rusty but Still Working!

Old and Rusty but Still Working!

Finished this painting today.
I think the painting speaks for itself…...these old things have a history…it shows on every little bit of these objects. The metal, the rust and of course the old wood. I added the flowers as a tribute to all of these.

Acrylics on MDF, 40×50 cm, 16’‘x20’‘
ORIGINAL PAINTING WAS GIVEN TO MY SISTER AS A GIFT FOR ALL HER KINDNESS

A bit like me Arie :o) Still working but in need of a little bit of tender care…....like this wonderful door latch. I am amazed by this…..the wood on the door is real enough to touch! The colors are perfect in every way…...I can feel the powdery rust coming off on my hand as I touch it…..the light in this painting is perfect too. I love the flowers…..what a great idea…..it adds a softness to the whole thing and makes it so interesting…..who put them there…..which leads to who is inside…...it’s a spectacular painting and work of art my dear friend.

Wonderful Art Arie. I love the sheen you have achieved – it contrasts with the rust and aged look of the piece – the light catching the door knob enlivens the whole work and brings into focus such a simple objects beauty and character.

Amazing work, I love the shine on the metal, it looks very realistic and gives it a soft feel despite of the old rust. The flowers are a brilliant touch and remind me to take more notice of the little things and wonders in life. Beautifully done.

Saliere beat me to it!! lovely painting Arie :)
There’s a japanese word specifically for ‘when nature grows through man-made objects and breaks them’ (like weeds can crack paving stones when they grow).... It’s late here, so I’m too tired to remember it…. but that’s what I’m reminded of! ;)

  • Arie van der W... replied

Hi Chris, thanks for the comment, nature can be very strong and can break the strongest walls even. It shows we can learn a lot from a ’’simple’’ plant.
