Ah, what cuties! I saw my first black swan cygnet last week. They are even laying eggs still at this time of year – mind you, being Australians they probably think it’s spring! Wonderful shot and like their names!
AARDVARK replied
Thanks Krys. Blackies are the only swans to lay in spring and autumn. So, its not a case of confusion over reversed seasons. Ours have had autumn broods over several years.

Thanks for educating me Aardvark! I was a little worried about the critters hatching so late in the year, but if its normal then thats fine! ;o) Lets face it, our garden doves laid eggs in January and raised a family! ;o)
AARDVARK replied
Sorry Krys but do not hold any hope for the hatchlings. The Blackies are not ment to breed in our winters. Even the mild winters we have had in recent years were killers.

Love this Aardie straight to my favs! Dont know what pic l saw with my first comment but it looked like a coot? Maybe l was seeing things lol!!!!!!!!!!!!
AARDVARK replied
Thanks Tracy, the bird in question will probably be a Moorhen which is similar to a coot, both are classified as Rails.

They are so adorable, love the way you name them all. Great image
AARDVARK replied
Thanks again Roaslie, With each brood I pick a theme for names and then select individual names alphabetically.

My dearest friend this is very beautiful and very sweet. I love their Biblical names !
AARDVARK replied
Many thanks Sandra. The names I give are always themed. Last year was Australian places and before that it was names that relate to “black”.
