The scarab, or Kheper represents rebirth. The scarab amulet is placed over the heart where it is inscribed with the chapter of the Heart from the Chapters of Going forth by Day (Book of the Dead).
The heart was considered by Egyptians to be the seat of intelligence and reason, and it played an important role in the journey to the Tuat (Underworld) when it was weighed against the feather of Maat (Truth).
This scarab is based on a pectoral of Tutankhamun made from lapis.
