Based on an illustration from the tomb chapel of nobleman Nebamun which shows scenes of all the good things in life that Nebamun hoped to enjoy in the hereafter as well. This image shows a young cow herder and his stock. I was rather taken by the smiling cattle and their beautiful eyes; each one painted as an individual with love and care. I thought the idea of owning happy animals in the afterlife was rather endearing. The tomb features many fine images on a white field with turquoise hieroglyphs which led me to explore using that colour for shadow glyphs.
I worked from a black and white image for this illustration so my use of colour is different to the original which is held in the British Museum.
