Droplets on a Pink Dahlia by Anita Pollak

This is another photo I shot back in June 2012 at a macro workshop focused on the use of flash in macro photography. I shot this pink dahlia indoors with some window light and two Nikon SB-R200 speedlights mounted on my Nikon 105mm f/2.8 micro lens.

I tried processing this many ways, looking for just the right texture to complement the flower, but in the end I decided it worked best with just some simple color adjustments and a touch of Topaz Detail.

What a sparkling beauty this dahlia is! You’re right that it doesn’t need anything more than the crystalline droplets already adorning the petals. (I love what’s possible with droplets and Topaz Detail!)

  • Thank you so much for your lovely comments, Celeste! Crystalline droplets – what a wonderful description! And you’re so right about droplets and Topaz Detail!
